The Black Heads of Bremen supplements Riga exposition with a silver fruit bowl
In honour of the significant anniversary of the House of the Black Heads of Riga, Brotherhood of the Black Heads of Bremen supplements Riga exposition with a silver fruit bowl – copy of the original – for the period up to 20 September 2020. All visitors interested to see this loan are welcome to the House of the Black Headsafter April 14th.
Roots of the idea of the silver fruit bowl go back to the end of the 19th century, when a silversmith from Riga Kārlis Teodors Beijermanis made two fruit bowls, thus honouring the 500th anniversary of the Brotherhood of the Black Heads. Unfortunately, both fruit bowls went missing during the World War One.
Members of the renewed Brotherhood of the Black Heads (Compagnie der Schwarzen Häupter aus Riga) came up with the idea to make a new fruit bowl, which would be a symbolic present to the Brotherhood of the Black Heads on its 600th anniversary – in 2016. Sample of the new fruit bowl is taken from the photographs of the historical bowls.
Newly made bowl depicts coats of arms of Riga and Bremen, as well as the old and the new coat of arms of the Black Heads, thus symbolising the close cooperation between both cities and the Brotherhood of the Black Heads. Stylized boat with Neptune, the God of the Sea– guard of the Black Heads since ancient times – sitting in it is made in the upper part of the bowl.
